Ancestor Medal Panel - Eternal Light
This piece is part of a series, which uses medals I had made in preparation for my Ancestor Medals class. Between the medals created to prepare for the class and others made as a demo during the filming, I had gathered quite a few pieces that were sitting in a drawer waiting for their next chapter.
And finally the time has come. I took my favourite medals and offered them a backdrop, a context and a new form for display.
Each medal has been mounted on a wooden cradle which was collaged with additional paper and fabric ephemera.
Each medal is a little world, a small assemblage of gathered beauty and history. It carries not only the weight of history but the lightness of art, a reflection of our shared human stories bringing the past into the present. Tangible treasures combining found objects, rusty tins, encaustic medium, paper and fabric.
Each panel is a one of a kind piece of art, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity.
