Boys Wear Pink

Stoning as an act of reclaiming

——

Found cabinet cards and crystals

Various sizes

While looking through my collection of found photos, I searched for men with a glint in the eye, a moment of expression, a glimpse of personality. And once I found that minuscole glint, I increased it exponentially to create a new narrative around that individual. Working for me is a very personal and meditative exercise that I explore with mindfulness. So, the act of slowly and patiently stoning the portraits becomes meditative in itself, as an act of reclaiming a past that was erased, silenced or forgotten.

I don't care to imply that these men weren't heterosexual. But for every one of my ancestors that wasn't straight, I am adding a stone to these photographs.

For every individual that couldn't live as their authentic self, I add a stone.

For every man or woman, who had to accept a life of compromise, I add a stone.

For every person that lived a life that couldn't be authentic, I add a stone.
