Magic Lantern Books

This series was born from the desire to display vintage slides that I had collected over time.

Traditionally magic lanterns would project using a light source: candles in the 17th century, lamps in the 18th and 19th century.

By adding a light inside a hollowed out book, I was able to shine directly onto the glass slides, making each photograph the protagonist of the book.

Some slides were altered by layering images or maps on translucent sheets. The book “Will You Remember Me?” combines 2 slides that when perfectly juxtaposed create an impossible surreal scenario.

The books were sold inside handmade fabric pouches.
