Finding Love and Transformation in a Book of Collage

——

This altered book was my entry for an open call of collage on book by Doug + Laurie Kanyer. The substrate I used as a starting point is a book of Love Poems by Christina Rossetti that was altered with found photos, vintage papers, gold and copper leaves, rusty staples, ink, thread, lace and pressed flowers.

The requirement was to fill at least 40 pages, which was a challenge in itself. But the thought of my Queer ancestors Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell making this an act of revolution provided the extra motivation.

This book is about Love, Loss and Healing. I used the poems to inform some of the stories of human connection, marital love, affection between siblings, queer and same-sex love, friendship, worship of nature. Stories of adults and children, of love as belonging, growth and resistance, solitude and war, of rejection, dreams and spiritual quests.

A book to celebrate all forms of Love.

A book to be read at twilight.
